CV Help - (Writing a CV) Common CV error - number eleven. CV not job specific
Writing a CV
Common CV error - number eleven.
A well written generic CV will prove useful for approaching agencies and posting on job boards but will not have the same impact as one that addresses the key requirements that an advertised job identifies.
It is a “time” issue: a skilled recruiter would be able to link the attributes within a well written generic CV to the specific requirements of a position and make reasonable assumptions as to the candidate’s suitability if time allowed.
The reality is that most advertised positions generate over 200 responses and this drives the recruiter to spend a very limited time with each one, usually around 20 seconds.
So, faced with this, the well written and targeted CV will standout against the pile of generic and poorly presented CVs.
Whilst a well written covering letter can help address this, it’s worth noting that the more enlightened applicants will send in both a well written targeted CV and a well written covering letter.
