Writing a CV
Common CV error - number fourteen.
Writing a CV well is difficult: commencing every sentence with “I” makes the task almost impossible.
Successfully writing a CV does not mean that you use a writing style that you would use for a letter or a report. As your CV will clearly have been written about you, you can use a punchier style of writing and omit the first person style. “I was responsible for successfully managing a sales team of 12 people.....” can easily be expressed as “managed 12 sales people: increased overall sales revenue by 34% in 2009”.
By removing the first person style it will help you to focus on a more concise and relevant style.
It is also somewhat easier to write about your achievements by removing the “I” as some writers (and readers) find that it can sound boastful.
